Emission Controls |
Peabody Radial Venturi Scrubber followed by a SonicKleenTM Wet Electrostatic Precipitator (WESP) from Turbosonic, designed to handle flue gas from salt laden fuel. |
Other |
This furnace burns hog fuel on a Detroit Stoker Roto-grate, a travelling grate system of removing the ashes from the furnace. |
Fuel handling
Biomass
Biomass fuel is delivered primarily by barge, with the ability to receive trucks. Conveyor systems take the fuel from the barge unloading ramps to the storage piles. Separate conveyors take the fuel from the storage reclaim areas to the Boiler.

The biomass is dewatered prior to entering the boiler by 4 Bark Presses. The presses are Saalasti Bark Master Model 87 with the capacity to handle 50 – 90 loose-m3 /hr of dewatered bark. The exit solids are typically 45% Bone Dry.
Fossil Fuels
Natural gas supply capacity is 26.2 MSCFD and is supplied at 14,500 kPa (2,100 psi) from the Terasen system. There is a local pressure reducing station with a moisture separator and filtration system and gas heaters to keep the gas at 27 oC while reducing the pressure to 415 kPa (60 psi).
Bunker C Oil is received by barge and pumped to storage tanks on site.
Oil tank storage capacity:
#1 Storage tank 10,000 Bbl
#2 Storage tank 50,000 Bbl.
Boiler Feedwater treatment
Basic process flow: Raw mill water to Cation Bed Softeners (5) followed by Anion Bed Organic Traps (5) both working on a sodium cycle followed by Mixed Bed Demineralizers (5). Capacity to treat 100 l/s (runs dependant upon resin condition) to < 1.0 umhos and < 0.10 ppm silica.
Deaerators:
